Vases for your Bouquet
You have been given a bouguet as a token of thanks for your effort in coaching a school choir.
When you get home, you place them in a vase, they are beautiful.
But in three days, in spite of changing the water regularly, the stems begin to go slimy, and an unpleasant smell comes from them.
Q.My cut flowers are drooping in one day, in spite of being put into a vase immediately.
A.They may have been out of water for some hours before you recieved them, and the stem tips had become dry and sealed off as a part of the flower's natural defence. Simply snip off 1cm of the stem to expose fresh material before placing them back into the water. This will allow the stem to take up the vital moisture again.
Q. I recieved an African Violet as a gift. I have had it on my window still for 2 days, it seems to be dying.
A.The African Violet, like many plants, is a shade plant. That is, it prefers the shade of jungle canopy in it's natural environment. So do not put it in a place that experiences direct, harsh sunlight such as a window. Instead place it where the light is filtered, such as a shelf away from direct light.
